چکیده

The impact of soil moisture (SM) and precipitation coupling (SM-P-C) on the subsequent climate at daily to seasonal scales over Tibetan Plateau (TP) is a critical issue. In this study, spring SM summer (SSM-SP-C) were investigated using multi-reanalysis validated with 13 global models (GCMs) in Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5, its relationship wet bias GCMs was explored. results reveal that SSM-SP-C shows an east–west reversal, positive eastern central TP negative western TP. surface sensible heat has significantly effects strength TP, while TP; whereas, reverse concurrent SM-P-C trend from summer, but significant spatial differences. ensemble mean underestimates can't reproduce associated model's failure capturing SSM-SP-C. This study highlights impacts alpine cold region provides potential way for reducing biases by improving parameterizations GCMs.

Regions of strong coupling between soil moisture and precipitation.

Previous estimates of land-atmosphere interaction (the impact of soil moisture on precipitation) have been limited by a lack of observational data and by the model dependence of computational estimates. To counter the second limitation, a dozen climate-modeling groups have recently performed the same highly controlled numerical experiment as part of a coordinated comparison project. This allows...

Blending Satellite Observed, Model Simulated, and in Situ Measured Soil Moisture over Tibetan Plateau

The inter-comparison of different soil moisture (SM) products over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) reveals the inconsistency among different SM products, when compared to in situ measurement. It highlights the need to constrain the model simulated SM with the in situ measured data climatology. In this study, the in situ soil moisture networks, combined with the classification of climate zones over the...

Precipitation impacts on vegetation spring phenology on the Tibetan Plateau.

The ongoing changes in vegetation spring phenology in temperate/cold regions are widely attributed to temperature. However, in arid/semiarid ecosystems, the correlation between spring temperature and phenology is much less clear. We test the hypothesis that precipitation plays an important role in the temperature dependency of phenology in arid/semiarid regions. We therefore investigated the in...

Impact of Soil Moisture Dynamics on ASAR σo Signatures and Its Spatial Variability Observed over the Tibetan Plateau

This paper reports on the analysis of a 2.5 year-long time series of ASAR wide swath mode (WSM) observations for characterizing the soil moisture dynamics. The employed ASAR WSM data set consists of 152 VV-polarized scenes acquired in the period between April 2005 and September 2007 over the Naqu river basin located on the Tibetan Plateau. For four different spatial domains, with areas of 30x30...

Summer soil moisture regulated by precipitation frequency in China

Drought is one of the most important but least understood issues in global environmental changes. Decrease in soil moisture is an indicator of drought. Here, we analyze summer (June–August) soil moisture measurement data across 50 sites in China in order to investigate the linkage between climate change and drought. At the country scale, a significant decrease in summer soil moisture in the top...
